News, The Bad Kind

Hey folks,

No picture today, and I don’t know for sure when the next one will be up. My computer got fried, and I’m a dummy who didn’t back up his important files. I need to wait to get a CD in the mail to possibly restore the computer, but until then I don’t know if I even still have the hundreds of pictures that were prepped and ready to go.

I’ll be back, probably even shortly. In the mean time, I’d suggest you sign up for the RSS feed by clicking on the little orange button in the address bar (or however you do it) to keep track of when we come back. As soon as my computer is up and running I’ll be putting pictures up here, but if I’ve lost all those awesome submissions, the pictures will be of my dogs until I get some new ones again.

Sorry for the bad news. I’ll be back soon with new pictures.

James has this to say about his cute little girl:

This is Libby the day we rescued her. We have both happy and sad rescue stories - she is one of the happy ones and is still part of our family today.

I love happy rescue stories. Thanks for helping save the world one dog at a time, James!

Pierre Is Bored Too

Any dog I see wandering the street loose without a person around, I stop for. It’s just how I am. This little guy was no exception. I stopped what I was doing (driving out to pick up my wife for lunch), knocked on some nearby doors, talked to people who were out and about, but nobody knew who he belonged to.

So I brought him home and called the dog wardens. I put him in the back with a 5 foot fence thinking he was safely confined there, and went out front to wait for the person to show up.

When I next looked, “Pierre” was coming around the corner to greet me. Somehow, this tiny little dog had climbed up and over a 5 foot fence. Wow.

I put him on a leash, and sat in the front yard for an hour while my dogs barked madly from inside. The dog warden came to pick him up. We put up fliers around town to let people know that this little guy was being held by the SPCA and that they should give a call to get him back. That day we left for Florida.

A week later I got back. I called the SPCA. Our posters had worked, and he was saved! Yay! Now, we see the family walking this little guy (whose name is NOT Pierre, no matter what we say) just about every day. Yay!

Doggie Daycare!

This is what I love to see at The Doggie Playhouse; dogs playing and having a good time! Photos like this one always make me grin.

Friday, a Yorkie/Lhasa Apso mix is playing with Chloe, a Jack Russell Terrier. The fierce battle raged on for days! Well, probably about 2 minutes, then someone walked in the front door (there’s a little gated-off area for customers to walk into before entering the actual doggy play area) and they both dropped the rope to go bark and the new arrival. That’s my guess for what happened!

Who’s the Cutie?

Last week I missed “Cutest Pooch,” but our winner was Zeek! Not a classic beauty, but he taught us you don’t have to look cuddly to be cute, so this week we’re going with another not-classically-cute dog: Curtis, the English Bulldog! Personally, I think his smile is adorable. What do you think?

Monster’s Bored

We just spent a week on vacation in Western New York. Our dogs came with us, and were relatively very well behaved. Even my wife’s parents, who normally chastise our dogs as being too rambunctious (they call our dogs the “Bumpus dogs”) were impressed at how well behaved they were.

Now we’re home, back in Delaware, and as you can see Monster would like to go back. She seems to think Delaware’s boring. She doesn’t know it yet, but tomorrow she’ll be going to daycare, which should help get rid of that boredom rather quickly!

Adorable Dog

Aww, Cute!

Mama Donna submitted her picture of Mr Jonz a while back, and I forgot to put it up here right away. It’s just so adorable I knew it had to go on the site as soon as I could get it there.

As a matter of fact, I don’t have a lot to say. I come home from vacation today, and since I’m on vacation while writing this, I’ll keep this post brief:

Aww! Cute!

Cute SPCA Pups

Too often I hear from people who are looking for dogs, “Well, I’m going to go to a breeder.” When I ask about the hundreds of local shelter dogs, they tell me that “you can’t trust those dogs.”

Both these little girls you see in this picture were shelter dogs. We’ve had MaiTai, the big one on the right, for at least 5 years, and Maggie was one of our foster pups. Heck, even Monster, my purebred Old English Sheepdog came from the SPCA!

It’s true. Some dogs that end up at the SPCA are problem dogs. They need special help. But just as often, the dogs at the SPCA just need a new home because their owners couldn’t afford them any longer, or didn’t realize what a commitment a dog really is. The dogs are lovable, sweet, and kind; they just need somebody to take them in.

There are already so many homeless dogs out there that would make good pets; do we really need to be going to breeders so much?
