Sunday Survivor

SPCA, Nina, a Shar Pei in need

Yesterday, I showed Malachai, a Shar Pei mix in need of a good home from my local SPCA. Today, I’m showing his sister, Nina, another wonderful dog, with a big heart, but special needs. See, she’s about 8 years old, which in dog years is about 8 years old*. She needs a good home, maybe with her brother Malachai? If you love Shar Pei pooches, these might be the perfect pair for you.

At least one day per weekend is going to be for showing dogs in need. If you know of a dog in need please email me, jeremiah@thepoochpage.com, or let the group know about this site so that they can contact me.

*Not a typo. She’s 8 no matter how you count it. Still old, though, for a pup.

Saturday SPCA

SPCA dog in need

This is Malachai, a ten year old black Shar Pei mix. Of course, I think he’s adorable, but I’m biased. Malachai has been at the Delaware SPCA for a while now, and is need of a good home. If you know anybody in the area that is looking for a dog, maybe that wants a senior dog, please point them to this way.

Also, if you know of an SPCA or animal shelter in your area that has a special-needs dog to be promoted, please let me know. Saturdays, and possibly Sundays, are going to be reserved for dogs that need a good home, or need help in one form or another. I want this to be more than “just” a dog photo website, I sincerely believe in saving the world, one dog at a time.

WonTon

Sharpei Mastiff mix
Click for full size

This is WonTon, a Chinese Shar Pei and some kind of Mastiff. He was a sweetheart, with big gentle eyes that stared out, always seemingly wondering what, exactly, was going on.

Understand, when I call him a dummy, it’s with great love. He was my big dope.

For the first week and a half after bringing WonTon home from the SPCA, we thought his vocal cords had been cut because he never barked when we were around. My wife’s mother swore she had heard him bark at her when she pulled in one day to take him for a walk while we were working, but never saw for sure it was him.

Imagine our surprise when about two weeks into owning him, he started barking at passing cars, random people, birds flying by the house, the squeak of an opening door three houses down, and generally anything that got to him. I guess he finally decided that we weren’t going to give him up just because he was a little loud now and then.

So that’s my big dope. Just look at his cow-like stare, and that awesome curly tail.
