Shadow

Labrador Rottweiler Mix
Click for full size

This is Shadow, a Lab/Rottie mix from The Doggie Playhouse. He looks cute! Unfortunately I don’t know a lot about the big dogs at The Doggie Playhouse because their back room (which is for the Big Dogs) is off-limits to the public for insurance reasons, but he looks like a nice pooch! He looks like he wants to say hi, and definitely seems well-behaved for the camera! So many times when I try to take dog pictures all I get is a blur.

I got up at 5am this morning with my own dogs, and started my day. Why is it that every normal day, my two girls are tuckered out in the morning until about 8 or 9 am, but on Friday, when they should save their energy to go play at The Doggie Playhouse, they’re wild and hyper? I try to tell them not to use up all of their energy before they go play, but they never listen. Just one of those things, I suppose.

Big Boy Rottweiler

I’ve show this big guy before, twice, actually. As you all know by now, I’m a fan of big dopey dogs. This boy wasn’t exactly dopey, being a puppy still and full of energy, but he was definitely big. Friendly, slobbery, and generally trusting of a guy he just met an hour before, he was fantastic photo fodder.

Of course, lucky for us he wasn’t a big dopier. Had he been, we would have ended up with three dogs!

Lito and Riley

Hilary Douthat sent in this photo of Lito, who we have seen before, and Riley, a Rottweiler she adopted from the SPCA. She had this to say:

I figured I’d change it up a bit and send you one of my older pictures. It’s of Lito (one of the shepherds I have now) and Riley the rottweiler. Riley was actually adopted from the DE SPCA in August of 2006. Sadly, she passed away a few months ago from cancer. We only had her for about 2 years, but she was one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met.

Thank you very much for sharing, Hilary. She looks like a real sweetie.

Rottweiler Stray

We didn’t get a good look at this face when we saw him before, so here he is, mimicking both Cody and Pooh Bear at the same time, giving us “the fish-eye” while on his back showing his tummy.

He was definitely a big softy, and I really hope his family found him, or that he was adopted by a loving and fantastic family. I can’t imagine a big goofball like him not getting adopted. Many people are afraid of Rotties, but when they roll over like a sack of potatoes and show you their tummies, it’s hard to be scared.

Stray Rottweiler

The local SPCA is unable to take in stray dogs if someone just randomly brings them in off the street. This means that the man who brought in this stray Rottweiler, thinking he was doing the right thing, ended up getting mad when they told him to call Animal Rescue, that the SPCA would be unable to help him. I can understand his anger.

Of course, the fact that he said “Then I’m just going to let the dog go and walk away,” didn’t endear me to him at all.

The SPCA wasn’t going to take the dog, couldn’t by law, so I stepped in and brought him home until the Animal Control guy could come pick him up three hours later.

This was at the exact same time as when we brought home the 5 Lab puppies (9 weeks old as of today) that we’re fostering. My wife wasn’t too happy with my willingness to put myself forward, but understands that there’s no way I could have just let the guy just go out and let the dog free.

It was hectic for a few hours, and definitely not easy, but it was worth it, since this pup has been adopted since then.
