Cute SPCA Pups

Too often I hear from people who are looking for dogs, “Well, I’m going to go to a breeder.” When I ask about the hundreds of local shelter dogs, they tell me that “you can’t trust those dogs.”

Both these little girls you see in this picture were shelter dogs. We’ve had MaiTai, the big one on the right, for at least 5 years, and Maggie was one of our foster pups. Heck, even Monster, my purebred Old English Sheepdog came from the SPCA!

It’s true. Some dogs that end up at the SPCA are problem dogs. They need special help. But just as often, the dogs at the SPCA just need a new home because their owners couldn’t afford them any longer, or didn’t realize what a commitment a dog really is. The dogs are lovable, sweet, and kind; they just need somebody to take them in.

There are already so many homeless dogs out there that would make good pets; do we really need to be going to breeders so much?

Help Your Local Animal Shelter

Sometimes, helping your local animal shelter can be a donation of money, but more often it’s a donation of time that the shelter wants. Most dog shelters need dog walkers, people to help clean up, talk to the public, or even foster their dogs. And if you don’t think you can handle helping with the dogs, the cats usually need help too! I know this is the POOCH page, but even cats need a hand now and then.

Go check out your local animal shelter and make a difference in a dog’s life! Help us save the world, one dog (or animal) at a time!

Phoebe strikes gold again, now the Cutest Pooch for two weeks in a row! Congratulations Phoebe, you’re obviously well loved! Your owners must be extremely proud of you, you cutie!

Maggie, a cute puppy

I wasn’t going to show Maggie because I have an obvious bias, but in order to not influence the vote I will keep this short and sweet: I think Maggie’s a cutie.

Vote for your favorite! You have until midnight on March 10th to choose your favorite!

When we brought Maggie back in to the SPCA to make sure she was healthy and ready to be adopted, one of the workers asked if she could foster Maggie instead. We weren’t going to say “no,” of course, but I do miss this cute little pooch.

Maggie The Pit Bull Puppy

This is Maggie, our newest addition to the family. We’re fostering her from the SPCA because they needed someone they could trust to give her her medicines* and teach her proper behavior. She’s 7 weeks old and smart as a whip! She’s already learned that if she barks enough, my wife picks her up!

Heh.

Isn’t she an adorable puppy? She’ll be available for adoption in a few weeks!

*She came to the SPCA with a bad case of puppy strangles. Thankfully they were in time to save her life with antibiotics and steroids.
