You Look Tasty…

A hungry dog licking her lips

“Yum,” she says, eying the camera. “That looks really tasty if you don’t stop taking my picture!”

My Dog, MaiTai, Hides

dog hiding under a table

MaiTai is not a fan of getting her picture taken. My dog likes to run and hide, or play coy with the camera. She’s not scared of the flash, or anything; she just would rather any attention she’s given be in the form of actually petting her or playing with her. Pointing a box at her and clicking it just doesn’t do it for her.

What Are You Doing?

My Old English Sheepdog, Monster

Any time I try to take a picture of my girls, I get down on the ground so I can take a picture from their level; I’ve been told it usually makes for a better picture than shots from human eye-level.

Of course, me being down on my knees at their level makes them curious as to what I’m doing, so I get this effect more often than not.

But hey, that’s okay. It’s a pretty good picture if I do say so myself.

Today is MaiTai’s birthday celebration! She turns 10 years old today! She doesn’t normally check the website, but I’ll pass on any birthday wishes you may have for her, I promise!

Don’t you just love her hat? My wife is going to kill me for showing this picture, so if the updates stop, you’ll know why!

Cute SPCA Pups

Too often I hear from people who are looking for dogs, “Well, I’m going to go to a breeder.” When I ask about the hundreds of local shelter dogs, they tell me that “you can’t trust those dogs.”

Both these little girls you see in this picture were shelter dogs. We’ve had MaiTai, the big one on the right, for at least 5 years, and Maggie was one of our foster pups. Heck, even Monster, my purebred Old English Sheepdog came from the SPCA!

It’s true. Some dogs that end up at the SPCA are problem dogs. They need special help. But just as often, the dogs at the SPCA just need a new home because their owners couldn’t afford them any longer, or didn’t realize what a commitment a dog really is. The dogs are lovable, sweet, and kind; they just need somebody to take them in.

There are already so many homeless dogs out there that would make good pets; do we really need to be going to breeders so much?

Maria got upset when I first wrote out “dopey dog” to describe her darling little MaiTai, but she asked MaiTai and MaiTai says “any press is good press.”

What? Don’t your dogs talk to you?

MaiTai started having a sneezing fit. Between laughter at her ridiculous faces, I realized I should grab the camera.

I’m happy with the result, but if she knew I was posting this photo of her, she’d be mortified!
